Red Velvet is one of those flavours that always connotes luxury. It became an icon of the baking world in the 1920s when the Waldorf Astoria Hotel started serving the cake and thus cemented its place as a cake that is just that extra bit special.
Ours is a deep scarlet-coloured sponge complimented perfectly with a delicate cream cheese frosting framed with a red velvet crumb.
